Types of Dental Implants

At TLC Family Dentistry in Huntington Beach, we realize that a “one-size-fits-all” dental implant approach doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why we conveniently offer several different types of dental implants, each of which can be custom-tailored to meet your personal smile-restoration needs. As part of our restorative dentistry services, all our dental implant procedures are performed by board-certified periodontist Dr. Navid Nobahar, DDS, MS.

What types of dental implants are there?

Dental implants have been used in the U.S. as successful dental restorations for over three decades now. During that time, over five million patients have restored their smiles thanks to a dental implant procedure.

At TLC Family Dentistry, we offer these different types of dental implants:

Same-day dental implants – As the name implies, same-day dental implants can be completed during a single office visit, as opposed to weeks or even months worth of appointments. Although this type of implant is not for everyone, same-day dental implants use technology that allows the post holding the abutment to fuse to the jawbone better than other methods. There are also several different types of same-day dental implants, including immediate-load implants (ILIs), mini dental implants, and All-on-4 dental implants.

Single tooth dental implant – A single dental implant is an ideal choice when one tooth is missing and you want to replace it for optimal aesthetics, comfort, and performance. Single- tooth dental implants require one dental crown that connects to the implant screw.

Full mouth dental implants – Also called an “implant-supported bridge,” full mouth implants are a viable option when you are missing multiple teeth. The implant acts as an anchor that supports the entire fixed bridge (overdenture). Once in place, the fixed overdenture restores normal function by preventing other teeth from moving, which makes eating, speaking, and smiling very comfortable.

All-on-4 dental implants – As a newer advancement in same-day implant technology, Dr. Basti might recommend All-on-4 implants when you need a secure solution for replacing a lot of missing teeth. As a permanent restoration, an All-on-4 procedure restores your entire upper or lower arch using only four or six (All-on-6) implants rather than one per tooth. The fixed bridge (overdenture) can conveniently be removed by a dental professional for routine cleanings and dental exams.

Mini dental implants (MDIs) – These narrower implants are sometimes used for small teeth and incisors, or for patients who require stabilization of lower jaw dentures, premolar teeth, or a missing tooth that was located in a narrow area. Although mini dental implants share similarities with and cost less than conventional dental implants, they also come with limitations that include
a lower success rate and shorter lifespan.

Types of dental implants cost

As the least-expensive option, the average cost of a single mini dental implant is between $500 and $1,500. Depending on factors that include materials and any additional procedures that might be needed (tooth extraction, bone shaping, etc.), traditional dental implants cost $1,500 to $6,000 per implant. Full mouth dental implants, including All-on-4, can run anywhere between $10,000 and $25,000 or more per jaw.
